Wedding Cake Trends 2020
As 2019 closes to an end we start looking at next year wedding cake trends, I just thought I’d take this opportunity to share my take on what will be popular for wedding cake for 2020
Naked and Semi Naked Cakes
This trend has been around for a few years and I have to say this isn’t going away anytime soon, I’ve already taken bookings for naked cakes for 2020, they are absolutely perfect for barns or marques or outdoor venues and they absolutely suit these surroundings, one thing that I would always advised my brides is to consider the time of year of their wedding, a naked or semi naked cake in the middle of summer can struggle with the great british weather!
Textured Cakes
We are still seeing a lot of texture on wedding cakes from a ruffle effect to delicate lace, does your perfect cake include this within the design?
Metallics
Metallics have been around again for a few years and the bronzes and that the soft golds have featured a lot in my cakes this year and it looks like they are going to be carrying forward into next year dressed with one of the cake hoops it can really make a bold statement piece
Delicate Florals
A wedding cake with pretty delicate little flowers will always be a crowd pleaser and add a handmade sugar roses and you have created the perfect wedding cake, they can be incorporated into soft pastel colours from delicate pinks to lilacs, one of the things that I’ve been watching is that pistachio is going to be such an on trend colour so if you can imagine and a soft pistachio colour cake with soft peach, soft pinks and ivory coloured flowers
Untraditional Trends
Bold, rich colours will always be an alternative to the traditional white wedding cake, one huge trend I have noticed is that a black wedding cake is working up the ranks for an alternative style of wedding cake, along with non traditional shapes like hexagons, matched with a square tier topped with a round tier stacked at angle to create a statement piece for your guests to admire on your special day, my philosophy is, its your cake it can be whatever you want it to be
